Two successful CPDs bring coaches and referees closer to futsal

The International Futsal Academy recently organised two successful CPDs, in partnership with the Leicestershire & Rutland County FA and the Leicestershire and Rutland Youth Development Futsal League. In both events, the emphasis was on improving the understanding of the game by both coaches and referees.

On 22nd April, IFA Head Coach Juanan García and Loughborough’s England international James Webb delivered the first one of them at Crown Hills Community College, on developing the modern football player through futsal. 29 coaches and referees attended and for 3 hours learned about the technical aspects of the game.

On 7th May, around the FA Futsal Super League game against Genesis, IFA Coach and FA Tutor James Barlow led a CPD titled Futsal Formations / tactics – a review during real play. After the game, Juanan Garcia and Genesis manager Carlos Codinha discussed with the 38 coaches and referees attending the CPD how the match unfolded tactically.

Both CPDs consolidate the IFA’s commitment to the development of the futsal workforce in Leicestershire and England.

Futsal coaching courses with the IFA

Developing a competent workforce for English futsal remains one of the main objectives of The International Futsal Academy. We are organising FA Futsal Level 1 and FA Futsal Level 2 coaching courses to contribute towards the education of new futsal coaches.

FA Futsal Level 1

The FA Futsal Level 1 has no pre-requisite to join. It is ideal for anyone looking to take their first steps into Futsal, whether a player, referee, parent or an aspiring coach. The course will be delivered at Loughborough College by FA qualified tutors . The aim of this course is to provide candidates with an understanding of the techniques and skills related to the game of futsal. This course will help candidates organise and deliver basic Futsal practices, and will provide an introduction to the structure of the game, the laws and the role Futsal can play in developing underlying techniques and skills.

On Monday, Grismby Town Futsal Club hosted Head of Coaching & Sport Science, Daniel Berdejo-del-Fresno and Head of Development, Marc Forrest as part of ongoing coaching workshops for FLT Clubs, players and staff.

The session was a FREE International Futsal Academy coaching session based on pressing and attacking combinations open to Football League Trust Clubs players and staff to support clubs and give an insight into the environment of the Leading Elite Futsal and Education Programme in the United Kingdom

“Grimsby Town Sport and Education Trust were delighted to be offered the opportunity to have the IFA coaches come in and work with our Futsal learners. This gave our learners the opportunity to showcase their ability to the IFA coaches while at the same time receiving coaching from two elite experienced coaches. The sessions gave the learners great content and lot of ideas to take away and implement into their own games. We want to thank Daniel and Marc for their time, it was appreciated by all players and staff.”
Mark Westerby, Grimsby Town Futsal Head Coach

“Grimsby Town Futsal Programme has a depth of talented young players that possess and
